IELTS Introduction

• IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System.
• It is an English proficiency test designed to assess a person’s ability in Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
• It is widely accepted by universities and employers around the world.
• The test is conducted by two official bodies: IDP and the British Council.
• Test type: Paper-Based and Computer-Based.

• 3 essay with 40 questions total
• Essays get harder as you go

Writing

• Total time: 60 minutes
• 2 tasks to complete
• Task 1: Describe a graph, chart, or process
• Task 2: Write an essay expressing your opinion

Speaking

• Duration: 11–14 minutes
• 3 parts:
• • Part 1: Introduction & short personal questions (4–5 mins)
• • Part 2: Long turn – speak on a topic for 1–2 mins after 1 min prep
• • Part 3: Discussion – deeper questions about the topic (4–5 mins)
• Tests fluency, pronunciation, and ideas
• Face-to-face with an examiner
